DIY Wheelchair Project Lead
An Mheitheal Rothar is pleased to announce that we have been awarded funding by Rethink Ireland under the Disability Participation & Awareness Fund 3.0 to run a pilot project on the repair of wheelchairs. DIY wheelchair repair is in demand from users of manual wheelchairs, however there is a lack of access to skills, parts and workshop space. The project has three goals:
To hold 6 workshops with wheelchair users to demonstrate DIY repair options and procedures.
Create a digital resource bringing together hints and tips from users and from our mechanics, aimed at both wheelchair users and small businesses such as bike shops who might take on repairs.
Produce a report identifying barriers to community wheelchair DIY repair and solutions.
This is an 8 month fixed term project running from August 2025 to March 2026. We are recruiting for a project lead with knowledge and skills in the area of wheelchair repair and a proven ability in project management.
